The Royal College Doctors Association (RCDA) conducted a Health screening programme for the students of the Royal College hostel on the 8th of May, 2016.
This programme was aimed at promoting the health and well being of the teenage hostellers who stay far away from their homes and parents. Over 200 Students were screened, among them two children were diagnosed to have heart murmurs, one child with undiagnosed absent seizures and many with visual problems including a child with very poor vision of both eyes which needed urgent attention.
Specialists Doctors in General Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics Surgery, Cardiology, and Chest Medicine were present for specialized consultations and management. Eye and Dental clinics were stationed for detailed and extensive screening and treatment.Those students who have been identified to have chronic illnesses, referral letters were issued to specialized clinics for further investigations and follow ups.
Mr. B.A.Abeyrathne, the Principal of Royal College, Mr. Chulathissa, the Warden, Royal College Hostel, and Mr. Athula Munasinghe the Hon. secretary of the RCU, were present at the event. This event was organised by Dr. Sathika Wijesekera, Dr. M.J.M. Mikram and Dr. Hareendra Kahawitharana.
